Originally, a DJ was someone who used to work at Radio Stations, spinning the platters for all to hear over the air waves.

The Disk Jockey also took those records on location, whether it was a sock hop, a private party or a big Shindig.

DJs can still do all of those things, but they are much more. A DJ can be an MC to a group who also does rhthym and scratching. A DJ may still be the person who brings a truck load of CDs to your party.

But today, a DJ can now also be a musician. Some DJs take existing songs and add or subtrack different elements in the song, creating their own "mix". There are many different kinds and styles.
