Har-Bal is an equalization system and not just a spectrum analyzer. Beyond that, even if your EQ software/hardware is superior you will be hard pressed to be able to come up with an equalization for a given track in the time and with the ease with which you can using the EQ in Har-Bal. This is because the filter is designed by modifying the spectrum directly and because the designed filter is realized to preserve perceived loudness. The latter is simply not possible to do accurately with conventional EQ equipment and techniques.
Why HRC Recommends Har-Bal Har-Bal has earned the HRC recommendation for it's brilliant innovation in an area of audio engineering that really needed improvement. Harmonic balancing is one of the most important, and often longest and most misunderstood processes of mastering. Har-Bal really makes that processes quicker, easier and more accurate with it's slick visual interface to the frequency spectrum. An absolute must have tool for the busy studio.

Comments: This app, is awesome. The time it can save you is incredible and money is wasted CDR's to test a mix only to find its needing more tweaking!!

I used this app to master a CD recently and it saved me a shedload of time, compared to my old method of mix, eq, burn, test - repeat...awesome. Also, I used it to find holes in "pro" CD's....hard to believe a little app like HarBal can do so much!! Awesome and well worth the bucks I paid...

Comments: I gave ease of use an 8 because it has so many features it took me a few minutes to get the hang of it, but other than that it's very self explaining. This is a great program that no mastering studio should be without.

Comments: I rated the "Ease of Use" an 8, but not because it's hard to use (few things are easier to operate) but becasue it CAN do a whole lot more than it does. The potential with this application is incredible, even the current application has saved me countless hours mastering and made my studio much more productive and profitable. It paid for itself with the first job I used it on...and that first job really impressed the clients, and coincidentally I just got a second mastering job from them today since that job...BIG thumbs up for Har-Bal from me.
