Downsizing Strategy
From dB Masters on Jan 21, 2007
As many of you know, it was with mixed emotions I started downsizing my studio. With increasingly less time for music I was tired of all my gear being in a back corner of the basement virtually unused with piles of gear.
Well, I sold my POD's, my mixer, headphone splitter/amp and still marketing my monitors and speaker stands and will sell miscellaneous other stuff. I then moved my guitars (not selling those!) to my upstairs office. With the proceeds from my sales I am spending a little bit on a Line 6 KB37 which is a UX2 TonePort with a 37 key MIDI controller. Everything I need right there, a controller, guitar amp models, base amp models, effect pedal models, preamp models...it's a one-size fits all unit that will also be incredibly space efficient.
I also happen to notice that since all my guitars are now on the main floor of the house, I play more. They are more accessible, I grab one whenever I am just sitting around doing nothing.
I have a simple DAW on my office PC, Sonar 6, Project 5 and a few VSTi's...simple, crude and perfectly effective.
I got active again by making some simple MIDI generated ringtones and stuff. Simple tasks but at least got me making music again, which felt good.
Life has been moving so fast, so much work, so much of everything else, music seems to have taken to hit from it, cuz I hadn't done anything in ages.
Hopefully downsizing and making it all easier will increase my musical output.
