Fun night at the gym

Last night I took my oldest girl to karate class, what I knew, but she didn't know, is that it was ranking night, her and four of her friends in class all got their next belt ranking. One very young kid that has been doing it as long didn't get his rank while his older brother did. He was crushed which was very sad to see, but the joy on the faces of the five kids that did get it was awesome. The class was tough, they did a lot of exersizing, it really tired them out, then after that they were put on their backs and the other kids in class, one by one, had to mount them and the kid on their back had to get out. My daughter did pretty darn well, so did most of the kids.

The smaller kids had some trouble, obviously, but even considering their size, they are obviously learning, because they were doing the right things, and kept trying and kept trying, they never gave up, not one of them, and they didn't even know at that time a belt was at stake, they just kept going anyway. I was very proud to see my little girl work so hard and get rewarded for it. Really makes a dad proud :-) And she got hers just a few days after I got my next rank.

Oh, yeah, and my wife found out, by proxy, that I am likely fighting my first (and possibly only) cage match in December. I think she is taking the "well, he'll just do it anyway so I'll just pretend I didn't hear it" approach to the whole thing. Still not sure if I am, but I know it's something I just have to do once...and who knows, maybe it'll be fun and I'll do more.
