Ignored Heroes

The military gets a lot of attention. I'd like to add a few ignored heroes.

1. The brave Americans at the sewage treatment plant who ensure that I don't die of dysentery.

2. The tireless souls who remove the trash I throw into the big can outside and drive it far away to keep rats from overtaking the streets.

3. The learned electricians who keep the energy flowing to my apartment so I don't freeze to death or get food-borne illnesses from lack of refrigeration.

Only about 3% of active duty military personnel are ever in any danger at any given time. There are plenty of heroes in civilian life who dramatically and directly affect our quality of life.

Hug your garbage man this week.

I don't disagree, or really, anybody that does something that has a positive, productive input on society at large. Everyone has their part in making society work.

...and a good friend of mine is a garbage man, and that guys works his *** off...especially in the frozen tundra during winter months...
