Harmonicas make any crappily recorded song sound better.

Oct 27, 2006 07:12 pm That was rather random my friend!
Oct 27, 2006 08:11 pm Ehhhhh... I respectfully disagree.
Don't force me to post the harmonica jokes, which are all based on facts.

Real musicians don't play mistakes... they play jazz.
:)
Oct 28, 2006 10:18 am Some are brill, some aren't, its ok if they know when to back off the mike but when they expect an equal cut of the fee then disappear leaving the band to pack up its crap.
Oct 28, 2006 05:05 pm Yeah, Zek. Someone once said "There is no such thing as a wrong note. But there are plenty of poor choices."
Definition of perfect pitch: Landing a harmonica in the toilet on the first try, without hitting the seat.

Oct 28, 2006 05:35 pm I thought perfect pitch would be getting the harmonica in the same spot in the bon-fire as the accordian...
Oct 28, 2006 06:40 pm Q: What is the difference between an opera singer and a Porsche?
A: Most musicians have never been inside a Porsche.
My bad. Oooh.

Oct 28, 2006 07:37 pm Hey now I like the harmonica. And the Arcade Fire makes pretty darn good use of an accordion. Same for Tom Waits. He's also one of two guys that can make the banjo sound sad. I wouldn't know where to start.
Oh Loki, if you need that instant mojo fix for a song, try a Kazoo too. Or a melodica is another cheap instrument that adds instant variety. Just add breath :D

Oct 28, 2006 07:49 pm Oh ya, do you remember The Hooters? They made the melodica famous as a rock instrument.

Oct 28, 2006 10:01 pm Haven't heard of the Hooters, but when I saw Sufjan Stevens in concert last year, he replaced all of the complex orchestral instrumentation from his Illinios album with one guy playing the melodica. That speaks volumes to me :D

Oct 28, 2006 10:09 pm The Hooters were, are out of Wisc. They wrote some great stuff around that thing. When We Dance is a great tune that they used it in.
Oct 29, 2006 04:03 am We (a band) sometimes play John Couger's song Cherry Bomb which has a great accordion part, our keyboard guy uses one of those hand held thingies with some good sound presets but we still have to remind him,'put it on squeezebox'

Oct 29, 2006 11:13 am The Hooters had a couple of great tunes. My fav was All You Zombies although I don't believe there is a harmonica in that song. As for a squeezebox, even AC/DC found a use for one.

Oct 29, 2006 05:04 pm Oh ya, All you Zombies was another great tune by them. The melodica was in there but very undertoned and not meant to be in the front as on some of their other tunes.

haha !
Man, I did not like that When We Dance song when it was out . The played the snot out of it everywhere... all the time, for like an entire year . As soon as Tadpui mentioned the melodica, the damn song popped into my head... I didn't even get to read Noizes post before it manifested ! Urgh .
The last band I was in had some songs with harp pieces in 'em... the guy was good at it, so it never bothered me .

Oct 30, 2006 01:44 pm Anyone know why/how a harmonica started being called a harp ???
Oct 30, 2006 05:36 pm melodica makes it sound even better. but then i like dub...

Oct 30, 2006 06:26 pm Pixe, I bet you could incorperate a melodica into a dub piece. Now you have me thinking of another project to try.
Hue, that is exactly what happens to me everytime I here one of those stupid things. No matter what song it is, if I hear the dang melodica I get that song stuck in my head.
I'm not sure on the origin of it being called a harp, but I know Honer released it as a Blues Harp, so I wonder if there is a connection.
